We knew that the TuneIn experience had to be simple on a watch. Browsing and exploring are high focus actions, requiring you to pay close attention as you scroll to find something interesting. That type of concentration would not be available to a watch user who would likely be out jogging, or driving etc.
Therefore, we felt that the watch should be an extension of your most habitual listening. We focused on making the top 4 most recent listens available at a single touch. The player needed to be simple and straightforward - complex album artwork made it difficult to read anything on the screen. Therefore we blurred the background image, setting the mood for the moment.
Finally - we worked on a key issue with the initial watch OS release. If your app wasn't already launched, the user couldn't initiate the session from the watch experience. Therefore we had to build an intro screen that would prompt the user to open TuneIn and take action.
